Hello Everyone,
I hope that your week is going well. Here is the information for the CRC Newsletter for the week of June 26.

The Food Pantry always appreciates the donations it receives! We always need donations of canned goods, toiletries, & toilet paper all year round.

Zach West will be here on Thursday from 4-7 to offer free legal advice on most issues, except for divorce.

Family Services:
We will be closed on July 3ed at 5pm and will reopen on July 5 at 9am.

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9am to 11am there will be individuals, community members, and volunteers assisting with the Midgarden located at Arcadia and Indianola. All who wish to join and participate are welcome.

The Beechwold Animal Clinic is currently holding a pet food drive to benefit the CRC. Any pet food is welcome.

“A gentleman I’m working with is in need of a dehumidifier. He has severe health problems, and the humidity in the summer is very difficult for him. From Senior Services:
“I have an older gentleman that has run into some troubles at his home. He needs assistance with his washer. It is presently filled to the top with water and has ceased working. Is there a handyman out there willing to check out this man’s washer and hopefully fix it? If you are able to assist, please contact me at a.taylor@clintonvillecrc.org or at 267-3050”

“Met with an older adult who is in need of some spring cleaning!!! Gutter cleaning that is! She resides in a home with three stories and therefore needs assistance with this task. Her only income is social security and though is resourceful struggles to maintain her home. Would anyone be willing to pay for the cost of this service or know of a company that would be willing to donate this service to an older adult in need? In addition to this need, this woman also is in need of a Kroger gift card, periodically an old wound re-aggravates on her right ankle, which requires her to bandage it daily. She purchases these bandages at Kroger and reports each box, which she goes through one daily costs $3-4.00, so over a month’s time, the cost is around $100.00. When I last visited this woman, she had her ankle wrapped in paper towels as she could not afford to buy the bandages, is anyone willing to provide this woman with a gift card to Kroger to allow her to purchase much needed bandages? “Request for some help spring cleaning, working with an older adult that needs assistance cleaning her blinds in her townhome along with the washing of her back window both on the inside and outside. She has back and knee problems and is unable to tackle this project on her own. If you would like to assist this older adult clean-up for spring, you will need to obtain a background check or be willing to be accompanied by a staff person to accomplish this task in the senior’s home. If you can help, please contact me at a.taylor@clintonvillecrc.org or at 614-267-3050.”

“An older adult I am working with would truly love to have a loveseat to enjoy in her living room. A loveseat preferred over a couch as she is in a senior apartment and has limited space. Would someone be willing to donate or purchase this item, please contact me at a.taylor@clintonvillecrc.org or at 614-267-3050.”

“I have a lady that I am working with that has multiple needs: this woman sleeps on the couch in her living room, she would appreciate a “new” couch for her to sleep on, her only request with this couch, is that it has cushions that are non-removable, if you have a couch in better condition with cushions that are non- removable, please consider donating your gently used couch to this woman? She is also in need of a kitchen cabinet with shelves to store her pantry items, she presently has her food stored all over her kitchen counters and table, are you able to her store her food appropriately and free up some of her kitchen space? Going Green

Here at CRC we are trying to reduce our need on plastic bats. If you have any reusable bags they will certainly be well used here.

“The Senior Supportive Services Department is looking for new and gently used items for events. Items can include but are not limited to personal care products, small household items, jewelry, and stationary sets. Please do not send any used personal care products.”

His only income is social security and can’t afford to make this purchase, would anyone be willing to donate a microwave? If so…please contact me at a.taylor@clintonvillecrc.org or at 614-267-3050…thank you…”

We are creating green grocery bags, and are in need of fabric of all sorts, to create the bags. Also the group is in need of an iron, an ironing board, and tailor chalk. She works full time as a server in a nursing home and her wages are garnished b/c of a problem a long time ago. “I have an 89 year old senior whose fence was damaged during our recent storms. The damage is to the top rung of her wooden fence and appears unsightly. She cannot fix it on her own nor does she have the resources to pay for the repair which would be less than the deductible if she were to claim it on her insurance. If anyone is able to assist with this repair please contact barbcooper@clintonvillecrc.org or call Barb at 267-3050.”

“I have an 86 year old senior in need of having his screened porch swept to clean it for the warmer months. He has severe arthritis and cannot clean it on his own. “Recently met an older adult that allowed a wife, husband, and a toddler to move in with her. The wife was also pregnant therefore she gave them her bed to sleep on. His only income is social security and can not afford to make this purchase, would anyone be willing to donate a microwave? Our community garden, MidGarden, is almost ready to plant. Who can go volunteer to help Derek, our gardening visionary, on Saturday from 4-7 to help put the finishing touches on the layout & design? If you can help email Joe at crcvista@gmail.com, or just show up at 4 p.m. at Midgard where it dead ends into the train tracks. Midgard is just north of Studio 35 off of Indianola.

We have some new projects here at CRC, and we could use some extra help.

CRC MidGarden work day this Saturday from 4-8 pm.

The Midgarden is the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center’s newest food pantry garden. If you’d like to help out this Saturday, please feel free to stop by. We’ll be work on breaking ground and getting ground plots ready. If you have any shovels or gloves at our disposal, please bring them.

The Midgarden is located NE of the Indianola & Weber intersection. Simply go due north a block from the intersection, and make your way east onto Midgard. Follow Midgard until it deadends at the railroad tracks, and find a place to park. You can’t miss it. Hope to see you there!

“I’m working with a 67 year old man who is sleeping on a broken couch which is too short for his stature of 6’3”. He has chronic pain related to a bad back and could really use a longer twin sized bed so he could sleep peacefully at night. He is on SSI and does not have the resources to purchase a bed. “I have a 89 year old senior whose fence was damaged during our recent storms. The damage to the top rung of her wooden fence is mild but appears unsightly. She cannot fix it on her own nor does she have the resources to pay for the repair which would be less than the deductible if she were to claim on insurance. “I have an 86 year old senior who is needing his screened porch swept and sprayed to clean it for the warmer months. He has severe arthritis and cannot clean it on his own. Free Bike Clinic

Where: North Broadway United Methodist Church, 48 E. N. Broadway

When: Noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20

What: Volunteers will do minor repairs such as spoke tightening, seat adjustment, tire inflation, and chain maintenance. Plus, kids can get measured for a free bike helmet.

Why: To help our neighbors on Change the World Day.

Our volunteers have been very busy this season doing taxes for people in the community. Thank you all very much!

So far, we’ve helped 92 people get back over $111,000 in refunds, $37,000 in Earned Income Tax Credit, and $15,000 in Child Credits.

“I have a senior who lives alone and has limited mobility. She currently is using her scooter to sit in when in her living room as her recliner chair has broken. She uses oxygen and sitting in a reclined position is the most comfortable position for her. If you are able to provide her a new recliner chair it would be most appreciated. The last time we spoke of her need for a vacuum, she told she is currently using a lint roller to clean up her carpet! She would love to have a vacuum with a BAG, she does not believe the vacuums without bags do the job right. Would anyone please help this lady by purchasing or donation a vacuum with a BAG to help make her life easier, she is on a very limited income and therefore purchasing a vacuum is not an option for her. “Working with an older gentleman that will need to move out of his current apartment by the end of this month. He has a storage unit that he states was ransacked by some family friends that he allowed into the storage unit to obtain his washer and dryer and some furniture. He is in need of some strong volunteers that are able to help him organize his storage unit to allow him more room to move more of his belongings from his apartment into his storage unit. He though is unable to do so until the unit is organized. He is an older gentleman with back problems therefore he is unable to physically do this on his own. “I have an older woman that is receiving some assistance from a local agency on managing her medications as she is having trouble organizing her medications daily and taking her medications properly. “Recently met an older adult that allowed a wife, husband, and a toddler to move in with her. The wife was also pregnant therefore she gave them her bed to sleep on. She is currently sleeping on an air mattress, but is on disability related to her back therefore she would benefit from sleeping on a mattress. Would someone be willing to donate or purchase these items to help her get organized and make her bedroom more livable? “I have a lady that I am working with that has multiple needs: she is in need of a digital blood pressure monitor, she received a donated monitor back in the fall, but unfortunately this monitor no longer is working, is someone willing to donate or purchase a digital blood pressure monitor for this woman? Along with this need, this woman sleeps on the couch in her living room, she would appreciate a “new” couch for her to sleep on, her only request with this couch, is that it has cushions that are non-removable, if you have a couch in better condition with cushions that are non- removable, please consider donating your gently used couch to this woman? She is also in need of a kitchen cabinet with shelves to store her pantry items, she presently has her food stored all over her kitchen counters and table, are you able to her store her food appropriately and free up some of her kitchen space? Hi Everyone,

We need volunteers tomorrow (Weds. morning) to help us unload a supplemental delivery for the food pantry. If anyone can come at 9 a.m. to help unload and organize, we could really use the help. It will take less than one hour.

The IMPACT health screening van will be here on Thursday at 9 a.m. We would also very much appreciate a volunteer that can do the intakes and help get clients set up with the initial paperwork.

Ohio Benefit Bank:

We are doing free tax returns here at the CRC through the Ohio Benefit Bank. Most people that earn less than $60,000/year will qualify. Call 268-3539 to make an appointment.

There is just a short time left to get income tax returns in. Call today if you need to make an appointment. Our volunteers have been very busy this season doing taxes for people in the community. So far, we’ve helped 81 people get back a total of $102,042 in refunds, $37,203 in Earned Income Tax Credit, and $15,117 in Child Credits.

“I have four new Grandparents that are trying to raising grandchildren on a limited income. The things they need are:

1) A 55 year old grandmother needs white gym socks size 9-11 for her 11 year old grandson and size 14 girls underwear for her 9 year old granddaughter.

2) A 53 year old grandfather who used to be a homeless vet. is trying to raise two young granddaughters and needs a bus pass to get around with them.

3) A 56 year old grandmother raising 5 grandchildren is moving out of a government housing unit and needs a dresser for the children, used is fine. Also, any

kind of reading material/worksheets for a dyslexic granddaughter age 8.

4) Another grandmother needs an umbrella stroller to get around with her 3 year old step granddaughter. She also needs a bus pass to get around with the children to appointments and the store.

I work with an older lady who lives alone. She only has one phone in her home and it is not portable—so she often misses phone calls (it is difficult for her to get to the phone in time). I have a senior whose vacuum cleaner is no longer working. She is on a fixed income, raising two grandchildren and does not have the funds to purchase a new one. She and one grandchild have asthma so keeping the carpet in her apartment as clean as possible is of import to their health. I have two kinship families that need help with bills. Both families are working and one needs help with a bill for a bunk bed and the other needs help with a student loan bill (the caregiver) to OSU. Together these families are raising 5 grandchildren and one un-related child. I have a client who is need of hearing aids but lacks the resources to acquire them. We have tried to get this man hearing aids free-of-charge, but our request was denied (for reasons unclear). This man is living on a fixed income with his wife; however, his wife is rarely home, as she is taking care of her ill mother in Grove City. Therefore, this man has to accomplish many day-to-day tasks on his own, including grocery shopping and caring for his granddaughter, that are made quite difficult due to his hearing problems.
We have found a program that will give him “free” hearing aids; however, this “free” program has a non-refundable application fee of $200. I have found a donor who is willing to donate the first $100 toward this application fee. I was hoping I could find someone else who is generous enough to donate the rest of the money.
